PFAS in PTRWA water samples increased 53% from Oct. 2023 to Oct. 2025

The first time I tested my Jamestown tap water for PFAS was October 6, 2023, using Tap Score’s EPA-approved test kits and labs. Two weeks ago, I retested using the same company. Our water utility is Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority (PTRWA). Our water comes from Randleman Lake, which is fed by Deep River. It is treated at John Kime Water Treatment Plant near the Randleman Lake powerboat marina in Randolph County, and then piped back to our taps via lines owned by the cities of Greensboro and High Point.

The concentration levels and number of PFAS in my PTRWA tap water samples increased from October 2023 to October 2025 as follows:

Below are the analysis certificates from the lab for both rounds; the results are shown in Parts Per Billion, so you have to move the decimal three places to the right for the Parts Per Trillion (ppt) number. The certificate on the left is from October, 2023; the one on the right is October, 2025:

The image below is a screen shot of the testing performed by local residents on their tap water and wells over the past two years – it includes results for residences in High Point and Adams Farm. Click HERE if you want to view the entire spreadsheet, which includes the tests done by the EPA.

Back when it was being connected, the State of North Carolina told the parties and towns behind the building of Randleman Reservoir (for a drinking water source) wasn’t a good idea, but they built it anyway.

A Trust Fund and Settlement Agreement naming “Responsible Parties” for contamination that has been leaching for decades into Deep River from an old High Point landfill and hazardous dump (Seaboard) is still in effect. A number of landfills, industrial facilities and contaminated properties continue to leach and discharge into Deep River upstream from Randleman Lake..
