As state legislators further cripple NC’s water protections, SELC petitions U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to take over

The Southern Environmental Law Center has filed a petition on behalf of community groups to urge the EPA to revoke North Carolina’s authority to regulate water pollution due to legislative actions hindering water protection efforts. The state legislature’s actions have weakened water pollution permits, underfunded the Department of Environmental Quality, and limited public participation in the permitting process, endangering communities and the environment. EPA’s response to the petition is pending.
