KERSEY VALLEY LANDFILL is seeking renewal of its AIR QUALITY PERMIT. In connection therewith, this map is an attempt to ascertain how many other facilities are emitting hazardous air pollutants into Jamestown’s air. PUBLIC COMMENTS for Kersey Valley’s permit are open until FEBRUARY 4, 2024 .
Here’s the link and a brief intro so you can check things out in your area:
Click HERE and then select “all pollutants,” “2021” and “WSRO,” like so:

Here’s what the column headers mean:
CRIT = “criteria” air pollutants – CAN HARM YOUR HEALTH & THE ENVIRONMENT AND CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE (things like carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead, particle pollution). GHG = GREENHOUSE GASES – trap heat in the earth’s atmosphere; cause climate warming. HAP = HAZARDOUS AIR POLLUTANTS. TAP = TOXIC AIR POLLUTANTS. These pollutants can cause respiratory, eye and nerve issues, some are carcinogenic, some cause skin irritation. Google the name of the toxin for more details but be sure to include “2023” in your search terms so you don’t get outdated info.
This is a separate list of “AIR PERMITTED” facilities in North Carolina, with locations and addresses. If you need more explanation, go the EPA’s page, “AIR POLLUTANT REPORT HELP.” And here’s the link to the NCDEQ’s “AIR QUALITY EMISSIONS INVENTORIES” page.
Because we’re currently in the PUBLIC COMMENTS phase for Kersey Valley Landfill’s Air Quality Permit , the Jamestown “map” above includes reports for facilities within three miles of KERSEY VALLEY LANDFILL (if available).
If a pollutant is listed on a facility’s report, then that pollutant is being emitted by that facility. Because we were in a rush to get this posted, only the higher concentrations are listed – noted in orange (although all the amounts are listed for Kersey Valley Landfill).
Unfortunately this data is old. NO AIR EMISSIONS data exists after 2021 for Guilford County facilities in the North Carolina Air Emissions inventory database.
NO AIR EMISSIONS data exists for GFL HIGH POINT C&D LANDFILL, which is owned by a company and not the City of High Point.
NO AIR EMISSIONS data exists for the following facilities located in Jamestown: TEKNOR APEX (plastics/PVC fabrication), Diversified Technologies (circuit boards), High Point Recovery and Reclamation Center, Seaboard Chemical Dump/Old High Point Landfill, Greensboro Metal Parts (NC Hazardous Sites Priorities List), Riverdale Global, or GTCC Fire Training Facility.
