In October 2023, when North Carolina state legislators redrew the political districts in Jamestown and Guilford County, Jamestown Park & Golf Course ended up in the legislative district of High Point, (under the jurisdiction of U.S. Congressman Addison MacDowell, N.C. Senator Michael Garrett, and NC House Rep Cecil Brockman)
Most of us didn’t find out about the legislative redistricting until we went to vote in the March 2024 primary and found the names of candidates we had been planning to vote for, missing from our ballots.
This is what was published prior to the March 2024 primary election as “sample ballots” for Guilford County – the Republican ballot is on the left, the Democrat primary ballot is on the right:
This is the ballot(s) we received when we went to vote on March 5, 2024 (the tiny print in some of the shaded boxes lists the precincts that are eligible to vote in that particular race – the Jamestown precincts begin with “JAM” as in JAM1, JAM2, JAM3, etc.):
Sen. Phil Berger (Rockingham County) moved the Town of Summerfield out of his district, picking up much of southern Guilford County, separating Jamestown from the district it has traditionally shared with High Point.
The Town of Jamestown was moved into newly drawn districts represented at the state level by Berger; Alan Branson (who lives in Greensboro); and, Richard Hudson (who lives in Moore County).
There was no democrat candidate in the March 2024 primary for U.S. Congress in the redrawn District NC-6. Most of Jamestown is in District NC-9 (Hudson), but some of it is in District 6 (Addison Macdowell).
