North Carolina’s drinking water and surface waters have the third highest levels of 1,4 Dioxane in the entire country, and Guilford County has the highest in the State of North Carolina, according to a study conducted by students at UNC-Chapel Hill. Of 61 counties surveyed, 43 counties had groundwater concentrations of 1,4-Dioxane, and Guilford County had the highest levels of all. (Listen to the podcast HERE.) The group said the number one source for 1,4 Dioxane contamination is landfills, especially Construction & Demolition landfills, and industrial dischargers.
