North Carolina is the third worst state in the nation for forever chemicals 1,4 Dioxane and PFAS water contamination. Guilford County is the worst county in North Carolina for 1,4 Dioxane.

Despite the release of a 28-page 1,4-Dioxane Health Assessment by the NC DEQ last month, North Carolina’s Environmental Management Commission (EMC) is siding with corporate NC Chamber of Commerce members and stalling the enactment of 1,4-Dioxane and PFAS water health standards.
DEQ Secretary Elisabeth Biser sent letters to the chamber and EMC denouncing the delays, stressing the necessity for such standards so that the State of North Carolina can make industrial polluters pay for clean-up costs instead of putting the entire burden on taxpayers.
Biser shared those letters in a May 2nd press release that also addressed the detrimental effects of regulatory misinformation and suppression.
Deep River remains unmonitored for chemicals, metals and VOC contamination, and unassessed for pollutant load limitations.
